About SF Food Safety Map

SF Food Safety Map is an interactive tool that allows San Francisco residents to explore food safety inspection results for restaurants, cafes, and other food facilities throughout the city.

Understanding the Data

This application uses official inspection data from the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Each food facility in San Francisco undergoes regular health inspections to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.

Inspection Results

Inspections can result in several possible outcomes:

  • Pass: The facility meets health code standards
  • Conditional Pass: The facility has violations that need to be addressed
  • Needs Reinspection: The facility has significant violations requiring a follow-up inspection
  • Closed: The facility was temporarily closed due to severe violations

Violation Codes

Health inspectors document violations using standardized codes that refer to specific sections of the health code. Each violation code is associated with a description that explains the nature of the violation.
